Box Score GREENVILLE, Pa. - Led by the duo of sophomore Kyle Pottieger and by junior Kyle Wisner, the 13th-ranked Stevenson men's volleyball team advanced to the title game of the 2014 CVC Championship with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 15-9 victory over No. 14 Lakeland Saturday in the semifinals hosted by Thiel at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (21-7), who extended their season-long winning streak to seven, avenged a 3-1 loss to the Muskies at the College of Mount St. Joseph's Harrington Center in a CVC crossover back on February 8.
As a result, Stevenson will face a rematch with third-ranked and CVC East Division rival Juniata in Sunday's championship game beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Pottieger totaled 16 kills, nine digs and four block assists after posting 17 kills, seven digs and six block assists in the same building a week ago as the Mustangs concluded the regular season with a sweep of Thiel in the CVC regular season finale for both teams.
Wisner added a season-high 11 kills to go along with seven total blocks while senior Jon Martin had seven kills and 10 digs. Martin was one of three players who had at least 10 digs led by senior Adam Thatcher who had a season-high 18 digs in just his fifth game back after missing 12 games due to injury from February 22 to March 21.
Junior David Moler finished with 44 assists and 10 digs while sophomore Patrick Schuyler had eight kills and eight digs. For Moler, it was just the third time this season that he had at least 10 digs as Stevenson finished with 60 as a team, its second-highest total this season. The Mustangs had 80 in a 3-1 win over Thiel on March 8.
Lakeland (21-8) was led by 11 kills and 11 digs by Brett Kaczmarek. Tyler Boyce also had 11 kills while Cole Aiazzi had 19 digs.
A win against the Eagles would give Stevenson its first conference title in program history and its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship. It would also give the team its second win against Juniata this season after the Mustangs upset Juniata at Kennedy Sports and Recreation Center 3-1 on April 4 when the Eagles were ranked at No. 1 in the AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll.
