Box Score STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson men's volleyball senior Austin Jacoby totaled a season-high 21 kills while senior Jon Martin had 16 kills and 17 digs, both season-highs, as the No. 15 Mustangs beat Thiel in a Continental Volleyball Conference contest at Student Union Gymnasium Saturday, 25-17, 27-29, 25-19, 25-20.
Stevenson (13-6, 4-1 CVC) is now 5-1 all-time against Thiel and has won three-straight in the series. The only loss for the Mustangs came back on Mar. 3, 2012 when Tomcats won in five sets at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Saturday marked the ninth time that Jacoby has totaled 20 or more kills in his career. His career-high is 26 set in his very first appearance as a Mustang on Jan. 22, 2011 vs. Lasell. He now has 1,148 kills for his career, the second-most in school history behind J.R. Jackson's 1,511.
The Mustangs totaled a season-high 66 kills and a .303 hitting percentage, the fourth time that they have hit at least .300 this season. Jacoby and Martin led four players who had at least 10 kills as sophomore Kyle Pottieger had 11 and junior Kyle Wisner added 10.
Meanwhile, freshman Nathan Ellis posted a career-high six kills for the fourth time this season.
Stevenson also had a season-high 80 digs, led by a career-high 22 from junior Scott Morantz. With 17 digs, Martin now has 964 for his career. He also has 942 career kills as he looks to become the first player in school history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
Junior David Moler finished with 15 digs to go along with 56 assists, both season-highs. His 15 digs are one shy of his career-high 16 set in a 3-2 win at Eastern Mennonite on Apr. 3, 2013.
Pottieger and Jacoby each finished with nine digs.
Thiel (10-10, 3-2 CVC) was led by Andrew Pohlod who had 14 kills and 13 digs. Dylan Lasher added 10 kills and seven digs while Colin Vitale added 17 digs.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, March 19 for a when it hosts a Continental Volleyball Conference contest versus Cairn at Owings Mills Gymnasium beginning at 7:30 p.m.
