Box Score 2 REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Led by two goals each by junior Katie Abbott and freshman Chelsea Blackburn and a school record plus-six rating by freshman Monica Pozuc, the Stevenson women's ice hockey team posted a 7-2 victory over Nichols Friday evening at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
The Mustangs (4-2), who avenged a season opening 2-0 loss to the Bison, have posted a program record seven goals in back-to-back games. In six games this season, Stevenson has posted 22 goals after totaling 58 a season ago.
In two home games this season, the Mustangs have outscored its opponents 12-2 after averaging just 2.4 goals per game in eight home games last season.
Abbot gave the hosts the early advantage just 1:24 into the contest, the fastest tally in the program's short three year history. It was the first goal this season for Abbott who got assists from Pozuc and junior Erin McLoughlin.
McLoughlin would tally a goal of her own with less than four minutes remaining in the opening period with an assist from junior Tori Emoff. McLoughlin has scored in two-straight games.
Stevenson would score twice in the second period on goals by Pozuc and Blackburn, the latter on the power play. McLoughlin and juniors Megan Alexander and McKenzie Taggart all totaled assists.
The Mustangs have now totaled a power play goal in three-straight games and in four of the six contests this year. Stevenson finished one-for-four on extra man opportunities.
The Bison (4-6) avoided the shutout with a tally in the third period by Laura Christie. Grace Murphy, who scored the game-winner in the first meeting between the two teams, was credited with the assist.
Abbott would respond however just 32 seconds later to push the Mustangs lead back to four. It was the second multi-goal game for Abbott and first since the program opener on October 26, 2012. Junior Brooke Webber and freshman Natalie Rosendahl recorded assists, the first in the career for Rosendahl.
The Mustangs would score two more goals in the third period, just 24 seconds apart. Blackburn would get her second tally of the night on an assist from classmate Sarah Antonelli, the first point of her career.
Blackburn, who ranked third in Division III with three power play goals, has totaled four goals in the past two games and leads the team with six points on five goals and one assist.
Junior defender Rachel Martell would get her first goal of the season on assists from Rosendahl and Pozuc. Pozuc was one of four players to have at least a plus-four rating, including Abbott who finished with a plus-five.
The Mustangs would finish with a program record 11 assists.
Nichols would score a power-play goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game. It was the first power-play goal the Mustangs have allowed in the last four games. The team has allowed just three in 22 opportunities.
Stevenson returns to action tomorrow, November 29 when the Mustangs host Nichols in the final game of a three game series.
