Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - Stevenson women's ice hockey sophomore Megan Donahue scored two goals, including the game-tying tally with 12:08 left in the third period, but UMass Boston's Samantha Fallon scored the game-winner less than two minutes to lift the Beacons to a 4-3 victory Thursday at Clark Athletic Center in the seventh annual Codfish Bowl.
The loss was the second by one goal in as many meetings for the Mustangs (3-8-1) against the Beacons after UMass Boston posted a 2-1 decision on Jan. 3, 2013 in sixth annual Codfish Bowl.
The Beacons (4-6-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Stevenson rallied to tie the game at 3-3 midway through the third period on an unassisted goal by Donahue at 11:54. The goal marked the first multi-goal, multi-point game of her career. She is now second on the team with three goals this season, matching her total from a year ago.
However, UMass Boston quickly answered as Samantha Fallon netted the game-winner just 1:57 later to send the Beacons to the title game for the sixth time in the seven year history of the tournament.
Fallon's goal came off a rebound after Alexa Cappione fired a shot that was saved by Mustang sophomore Mackenzie Bruch.
Bruch finished with 33 saves in the contest.
UMass Boston led 1-0 after one period of play thanks to a power play goal by Alyssa Sullivan. The home team added its second just 17 seconds into the second period when Sullivan and Kat Armstrong assisted Katie Loiselle as the Beacons registered 16 of the game's first 21 shots.
Alexandra Karlis scored unassisted at 7:02 of the second period to increase the UMass Boston lead to 3-0.
Donahue scored her first goal of the game on the power play just over two minutes later off assists from sophomores Madison Lange and Rachel Martell.
Martell then found the back of the net for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career off a feed from sophomore Molly O'Neil at 14:21 to pull the Mustangs within one heading into the third period.
Martell finished with two points and a plus-2 rating.
Sullivan led UMass Boston with a goal and two assists to lead eight different Beacons who had at least one point. Casey Schaejbe finished with 21 saves on 24 shots.
Stevenson will face Neumann in Friday's semifinals with puck drop set for 3:00 p.m.
