Eight Different Point Scorers Highlight Mustangs 4-1 Victory Over Sacred Heart

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Led by a goal and an assist from sophomores Erin McLoughlin and Madison Lange, the Stevenson women's ice hockey team remained unbeaten at home with a 4-1 vicotry over Division I Sacred Heart Saturday at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

With the win, the Mustangs (3-1-1) improve to 1-3-1 in two seasons against Sacred Heart, including 1-1-1 this year.

After a scoreless first two periods, sophomore Katie Abbott scored her first goal of the season on a 5-on-3 with assists from Lange and sophomore Jessie Capanelli. Stevenson finished 1-for-4 on power play opportunities, while holding the Pioneers to 0-for-7.

The Mustangs have scored a power-play goal in every game this season, and are now 7-for-21 on the year. It was also the second game they held their opponent scoreless on power-play opportunities.

McLoughlin pushed the lead to 2-0 with her first career goal on assists from Abbott and freshman Stephanie Tartaglino, who picked up her first collegiate point.

Sacred Heart (3-4-1) cut the lead to one just over a minute later on a team leading fourth goal by Casey Stathopoulos off an assist from Annie Varano.

Lange netted her second goal of the season on an unassisted breakaway before sophomore McKenzie Taggart scored her team leading eighth goal of the year off an assist from sophomore Molly O'Neil to give the Mustangs a 4-1 lead with 4:42 remaining.

Taggart has scored a goal in all five games this season.

Defensively, Stevenson totaled a season-high six blocked shots, including two by sophomore Brooke Webber. The team also totaled six Friday versus the Pioneers.

Sophomore Sarah Modzelewski totaled 22 saves, including 21 in the second and third periods, in her second win of the season.

The Mustangs return to action on Friday, November 22 when they travel to fave Division II Franklin Pierce for the first of a two-game set. Faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
