Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Stevenson men's soccer senior Justin Carver (Manchester, North Carroll) scored his second career game-winning goal just four minutes into the first overtime as the Mustangs won their season opener Thursday, 1-0 on the road at Bridgewater (Va.).
The Mustangs (1-0) completed the home-and-home sweep of the Eagles after winning last year's season opener 3-0 at Caves Athletics Complex. Stevenson has now won three-straight season opening games and are 4-1 in season opening games under head coach John Plevyak.
Carver, who played in all 94 minutes Thursday, now has eight career goals for the Mustangs, needing just one more to break into the school's top-10. His goal capped off a second half and overtime in which the Mustangs outshot the Eagles, 12-4. Stevenson also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks over that time.
A total of 12 different Mustangs recorded a shot in the game while Stevenson's defense, led by junior Bradley Davis (Perry Hall/Archbishop Curley) and sophomore Jake Bond (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) held tight, limiting the Eagles to nine shots.
Senior Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made two saves while recording the 26th win of his career with nine of those coming by shutout.
The Mustangs continue their six-game season opening road trip on Friday when they take on Eastern in Franklin & Marshall's Scrapyard Classic beginning at 8:00 p.m.
