Stevenson, MD- The Mustangs (4-10 (2-3)) triumphed over
the Marymount Saints (7-6 (2-3)) in an intense come-back win this
afternoon.
Marymount took the initial lead and control of the court.
Ely Richardson (Hartford, CT/Suffield Academy)
stole the ball from the Saints and made the layup to put the
Mustangs on the board at 17:38. The Mustangs came within two
points after Mike Turner (Baltimore,
MD/Polytechnic) took advantage of a Saints turnover and
Chaise Lancaster (Bowie, MD/Northwestern) finished
it at 14:35.
Villa Julie took their first lead, 17-16, when Greg
Woody (Baltimore, MD/Mt. St. Joe) sank a three-pointer
with an assist from Anatoly Smolkin (Baltimore,
MD/Pikesville). The lead then exchanged multiple
times before the end of the half. The last five minutes were
controlled by Marymount. At the half, Marymount was up
39-32.
Marymount came into the half with a vengeance. They went
up by as many as 13 points over the Mustangs with 10 minutes left
on the clock. Villa gained momentum and started taking
advantage of the Saints. Their lead was cut to only 1, 64-63,
when Marymount's Bryant Majors turned the ball over and
Woody sank a three-pointer off of the steal by
Justin Miles (Baltimore, MD/Frederick
Douglas).
From then on out, it was a Mustang controlled game.
Lancaster made a pair of free-throws to give the
Mustangs the final lead of the game. The Mustangs finished
with a strong win, 73-66, over their CAC opponent.
Woody had the game high of 20 points with 7
assists and 4 steals. Lancaster tallied 17
points and Broderick Hill (Largo, MD/Bishop
McNamara) had 11 points. Jeremy Bernard
(Baltimore, MD/Western Tech) continued with high numbers
in rebounding with 12.
The Mustangs come back to the court looking for another
conference win on Wednesday, January 16th, at 8 pm
against Salisbury.
