Brendan Lach gave the Mustangs their best finish at the MAC Championships after finishing fifth in the 1650-yard Freestyle and breaking the Stevenson program record in the process.
After four days of competition, Stevens Institute of Technology won the MAC Championship with 1,632 points, and the Mustangs secured sixth after they totaled 690 points.
The finals on the last day of the championships opened with the 1650-yard Freestyle. Lach was the only swimmer from
James Riordon's team to qualify for the medal contention heat.
Tydus Coogan swam in the preliminary heat for the mile free and finished with a time of 19:13.91, finishing 11th. Lach secured fifth place in the opening event of the final session at the championships. His time of 17:01.73 smashed his previous program record by 24 seconds.
Following the 1650 Free was the 100 Free finals, which showcased
Keon Pugh and
Justin Watts.
Mekhi Herring swam in the morning session and fell short of qualifying for the final. Watts' preliminary time secured him a lane in Heat C and a season best, while Pugh qualified for Heat B after he swam a personal best time of 49.24.
When Pugh returned to the finals, he outswam his personal best set in the morning and secured ninth in the 100 Free with a time of 48.59. Watts swam a 50.52, a personal best, and finished in 20th.
Stevenson was led in the 200 Back by
William Lebron,
Aiden Dill,
Alexander Kaye, and
Nick Bierstine. A pair of Mustangs qualified for Heat B, while the other pair qualified for Heat C of the finals. Lebron and Dill finished their morning heats in 13th and 15th, securing finals Heat B lanes, while Kaye and Bierstine took to the blocks in finals Heat C. Lebron recorded a season best, while Kaye, 2:12.42, and Dill, 2:07.29, swam personal bests.
Lebron, 12th, and Dill, 14th, in the 200 Back finals kicked it into next gear, outdoing their times set in the preliminary heats. Dill's new personal best is a 2:05.31. Kaye and Bierstine finished 19th and 21st after they swam in Heat C. Kaye's final time of 2:09.39 was the second time today that he set a personal best in the event.
The final individual event of the championships was the 200-yard Breaststroke. Four Mustangs took to the pool during the morning session to challenge for a medal contention lane in Heat A of the finals.
Skyler Coburn earned himself a spot in Heat C, while
Jack Mark competed in Heat B. It was
Brandon Cogdill and
Noah Abd who swam themselves into Heat A. Cogdill finished preliminaries with a fifth-place result after he swam a time of 2:13.69, while Abd swam a personal best time of 2:14.66 and finished seventh.
Following Heat A, Cogdill secured sixth with a 2:13.36, a season best, while Abd swam another personal best and finished seventh after swimming a 2:14.19. Mark finished 16th overall following Heat B and Coburn 23rd after he swam in Heat C.
The MAC Championships ended with the 400 Free Relay. Stevenson fielded two relay teams, A and B. Bierstine, Kaye, Mark, and Dill swam in Heat 1 as relay team B and finished in 18th place. Relay team A, swam by Watts, Cogdill, Lebron, and Pugh, competed in Heat 3, finishing in seventh.
