Stevenson Ends Day Three of MAC Championships in Sixth

YORK, Pa. - At the conclusion of day three of the MAC Championships, Keon Pugh led the second heat of the 100-yard Backstroke, finishing first and ninth overall. 

The penultimate day of the conference championships opened up with the 200-yard Butterfly. Mekhi Herring was the lone Mustang, out of 22 participants, to swim and finished with a personal best time of 2:33.26. After qualifying for the first heat of the 200 Fly finals, he finished in 20th during the afternoon session. His finals time of 2:33.14 set another personal best for the first-year

The second event of the preliminary session was the 100 Back. Alongside Pugh, Justin Watts, Alexander Kaye, and Nick Bierstine took to the blocks. Kaye recorded a new personal best, swimming a 1:01.40. He qualified for the first heat of the finals, as Bierstine and Watts also qualified for the first heat, with the former recording a new season best time of 1:01.96. Pugh marginally missed out on medal contention and finished ninth in the preliminary session, recording a personal best of 55.69.

Similar to Herring in the 200 Fly, Pugh swam a second personal best time during day three of the championships. He finished ninth overall with a time of 55.51. Watts, Kaye, and Bierstine all topped their times in the finals. Watts recorded a season-best time of 57.73, while Kaye and Bierstine set personal bests, 1:01.49 and 1:01.45, respectively.

Brandon Cogdill, Noah Abd, and Jack Mark competed in the final individual event of day three, the 100-yard Breaststroke. Cogdill was outswam by eight hundredths of a second and missed out on medal contention for the finals. Cogdill swam in Heat Two of the 100 Breast finals after he finished with a personal best time of 1:01.32. Abd and Mark competed in the first heat of the finals, with the former setting a new personal best by one-tenth of a second. Abd recorded a time of 1:02.21.

Cogdill also joined his teammates in setting multiple personal bests at today's championships. In the final, he finished 11th overall and set a new personal best, for the second time in this event, after he swam a 1:01.12. Abd and Mark finished in 17th and 21st, following their first heat run. He also broke his previously set 1:02.21 personal best time, replacing it with a time of 1:01.91.

The final event of day three was the 800-yard Freestyle Relay. During the morning session, Stevenson's B team competed. The B team was comprised of Abd, Tydus Coogan, Skyler Coburn, and Kaye. During the finals of the lone team event of the afternoon session, the B team finished in 17th, while the A team, made up of William Lebron, Bierstine, Aiden Dill, and Brendan Lach, secured sixth.

The final day of the MAC Championships will showcase the 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, and the 1650 Free during the morning session at 9:30 a.m.
