Cogdill Fifth and Sets Program Record in 400 IM; Mustangs Sixth After Day 2

YORK, Pa. - Brandon Cogdill broke the 400 Individual Medley record twice and secured fifth in the finals, as the Mustangs finished day two of the MAC Championships in sixth.

The first final of the day was the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Alexander Kaye, Nick Bierstein, Noah Abd, and Brendan Lach competed in Heat 2 while Keon Pugh, Jack Mark, Brandon Cogdill, and Justin Watts participated in Heat 4. The first team for Stevenson swam a 1:35.84 and finished in 19th, while the Mustangs recorded a time of 1:31.95 in Heat 4 and secured eighth.

Stevenson had five Mustangs in the preliminary heats of the first individual event, the 400IM. Cogdill, Lebron, and Abd qualified for Heat C and medal contention during the afternoon session, with Abd beating out Lach in a swim-off for the eight seed. Lach competed in Heat B, and Coburn took the blocks in Heat A. Four of the five competing Mustangs broke the previous 400IM program record, but it was Cogdill who set the new record with a time of 4:24.03. Lebron, 4:25.08, Abd, 4:25.45, and Lach, 4:25.45, set new personal bests in their preliminary heat.

In the 400IM finals, Cogdill broke his own record set during the preliminary session and recorded a 4:23.63. He tallied a fifth-place finish for Stevenson, as Abd finished in sixth and Lebron in eighth. Coburn set a new personal best after recording a time of 5:00.58 in Heat A.

In the 100-yard Butterfly, Pugh, Tydus Coogan, and Mekhi Herring competed for Stevenson during the morning session. Pugh was the only Mustang to qualify for the final and swam in Heat B after his preliminary time of 55.22. Coogan set a personal best despite not qualifying with a time of 1:01.39.

Pugh won Heat B of the 100 Fly finals and finished ninth overall. His time of 54.24 set a new personal best for the first-year.

Only Watts swam during the preliminary heats of the 200 Free. He qualified for Heat A with a time of 1:56.99. During the finals heat, Watts swam a 1:54.78 and finished sixth in the first heat.

The final event of the afternoon session was the 400-yard Medley Relay. Stevenson had two teams compete. In Heat 1, Stevenson had Aiden Dill, Mark, Abd, and Kaye take the blocks, while Lebron, Cogdill, Pugh, and Watts competed in Heat 4. Dill, Mark, Abd, and Kaye finished sixth in Heat 1 of the 400 Medley Relay, while Lebron, Cogdill, Pugh, and Watts finished seventh overall with a time of 3:43.46 in Heat 3.

Day three of the MAC Championships continues tomorrow, with the preliminary session beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the Finals at 5:30 p.m. The 200 Fly, 100-yard Backstroke, 100-yard Breaststroke, and 800-yard Freestyle Relay are slated for tomorrow's preliminary session.
