Mustangs Compete in Three Finals, Concludes Day 1 of Championships

YORK, Pa. - Charlotte Forte secures an eight-place finish, the highest of any Mustang on day one of the MAC Championships in York, Pa.

The first event of the 2026 MAC Championships was the 500-yard Freestyle. Across the 11 teams, 32 athletes qualified, including two previous Mustangs who received MAC Swimmer of the Week awards this season, Forte and Eryn O'Brien. In the morning preliminary session, Forte secured a top-8 spot and recorded a personal best after swimming a 5:27.02. At the same time, O'Brien also qualified for the final after finishing 20th and setting a new personal best of her own, swimming a 5:37.87.

In the afternoon session, Forte and O'Brien returned to the pool for the 500 Free finals. Forte finished in eighth, swimming a 5:29.28, while O'Brien secured 22nd for Stevenson after she swam a 5:40.64.

In the second event of the day, the 200-yard Individual Medley, four mustangs competed out of 34 MAC athletes. Between Hailey Buenemann, Sophia Schultze, Claire Price, and Olivia Jansen, only Jansen qualified for the final after she swam a 2:27.50. Although not competing in the final, Buenemann, Schultze, and Price swam season-bests, with Price recording her personal-best in the 200IM, swimming a 2:28.87.

Jansen bested her preliminary time in the finals later in the afternoon. She took to the blocks, winning finals Heat C and securing 17th in the 200IM, recording a time of 2:24.87.

The final preliminary event of the morning session was the 50-yard Free. Out of 40 qualified swimmers, Laila Umrani-Sanders, Jordan Sowards-Barnett, and Natalie Kent swam for Stevenson. Unfortunately, all three missed the cut for the finals, 

Two Mustang teams swam during the 200-yard Medley Relay. Denise Martinez, Schultze, Alexa Darak, and Umrani-Sanders represented the first team, while Sowards-Barnett, Jansen, Buenemann, and Kent represented the second team. In Heat A of the finals, the first team finished in 7th place after they swam a 1:55.38, a season best for the Mustangs. The second team finished in 17th and swam a time of 1:59.56.

Day two of the MAC Championships continues tomorrow. The preliminary session begins at 9:30, while the finals start at 5:30. The 400IM, 100-yard Butterfly, and the 200 Free will be the events highlighted tomorrow.
