LYNCHBURG, Va. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball traveled to the University of Lynchburg for this weekend's tournament hosted by the Hornets. The Mustangs would face Liberty and Lynchburg, falling 3-2 and 4-1 in each contest, respectively.
Stevenson's two wins against the Flames were recorded by Rachel Lenz and Courtney Foose at the twos (16-21, 21-14, 15-12) and Scarlett Dunn and Claire Thompson at the fives (21-16, 18-21, 15-13).
The Flames earned victories at the ones (23-21, 21-18) against Miranda Mueck and Nicolette Fuglestad, threes versus Sima Kahoussi and Giulia Viglietta (21-11, 24-22), and fours facing Hannah Naja and Maddie Clouser (21-18, 21-14).
Against the hosting Hornets, the Mustangs' lone victory came from fourth pairing Courtney Foose and Rachel Lenz, who took Lynchburg's Parker Lynch and Virginia Zalinski to three sets. Foose and Lenz battled back from a 21-17 first set loss to win a quick 21-10 second set and power through to an 18-16 third set victory.
At the twos, Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja fell 21-18 in the first set before earning a 21-14 win in the second, but Lynchburg pulled through for a 15-10 third set effort. Giulia Viglietta and Sima Kahoussi kept themselves alive in the third flight with a 21-16 second set victory to force a third, but ultimately fell 15-11.Â
After today's pair of losses, the Mustangs fall to 5-6 overall. They look to finish the weekend 7-6 tomorrow, March 29th with their 10 a.m. match against Richard Bland College and their 12 p.m. meeting with Southern Virginia University.
