Mustangs fall behind West Virginia State, trail program-high heat scores

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson acrobatics & tumbling (0-4) lost, due to an injury, to the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets on Thursday evening. The team raised awareness for mental health during the meet, and hosted guest faculty coach Beth Kobett, Dean of the School of Education.

Starting strong, the team finished with a final 9.35 score in the pyramid heat of the compulsory event, which is 0.05 lower than the program high. The Mustangs continued momentum into the next toss heat, adding a 7.05 with an 8.00 start value.

In the acro event, the team added an 8.65 on a 10.00 start value in the five-element heat, 0.10 lower than the program-high, topping the Yellow Jackets' 7.85 score. The teams were tied 21.90 in this event.

In the pyramid event before halftime, The Mustangs dominated, adding an 8.70 in the inversion heat, an 8.25 in the synchronized heat, and tying the Yellow Jackets with a 9.55 on a 10.00 start value in the open heat, 0.15 away from the program high.

The highest in the toss event was a 7.25 on an 8.80 start value scored in the 450 salto heat by the team.

In the tumbling event, the Mustangs showed out in the quad pass, scoring a 4.550 on a 6.75 start value, trailing the program-high by 0.35.

The team event added a 47.71 on an 86.51 start value for the team, ending it all with the final 193.680-168.685 score.

Stevenson acrobatics & tumbling next travels to American International College over spring break for a tri-meet against the Yellow Jackets and the Georgian Court Lions on Wednesday, March 19 beginning at 6 p.m.
