OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball celebrated seniors Caleigh Bernota and Olivia Simon today with a 3-2 victory over NCAA Division II Erskine this morning after falling to the Flying Fleet 2-3 yesterday. In the final match of the 2024 Stevenson Invitational, the Mustangs fell 3-2 to Lynchburg.
Stevenson's middle pairs carried the Mustangs to the win. Fourth pair Olivia Simon and Sam Simmers won in sets of 21-17 and 21-16 before Nicolette Fuglestad and Miranda Mueck also swept their opponents 21-15 and 21-17.
With flights one and five going to the Flying Fleet, the fate of the match rested on the shoulders of Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja. After losing the first set in extra points, Clouser and Naja battled back for a 21-13 victory before taking the third set 15-13 to clinch for the Mustangs.
Against Lynchburg, Simon and Simmers went 2-0 as the fourth flight, as did third flight Nicolette Fuglestad and Miranda Mueck. Simon and Simmers finish the Invitational with a 3-1 record while Fuglestad and Mueck went a perfect 4-0.
In exhibition, Claire Thompson and Brianna West took their opponents to three sets, winning the first 21-19 and third 17-15.
With today's split, the Mustangs finish the regular season 20-8 overall. Next weekend, Stevenson will compete for the national title in Tavares, Florida at Hickory Point Beach.
