TAVARES, Fla. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball took on Berry College and East Texas Baptist University today in their season finale.
The Mustangs fell 3-1 to Berry in the semifinal round, leading them to face East Texas Baptist for bronze. Stevenson bounced back from their morning loss to take the Tigers down 3-1 and return to Owings Mills with hardware.
Berry ultimately fell 3-1 to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the championship match.
Fourth flight Miranda Mueck and Giulia Viglietta and fifth flight Sam Simmers and Olivia Simon took the Vikings to three sets after both pairs won the second.
Stevenson's victory against Berry came from Nicolette Fuglestad and Taylor Jones at the twos, who finished in sets of 21-15 and 21-14. The second flight duo would go on to win their match against East Texas Baptist as well (21-13, 21-10), making them the only Mustang pairing to play and win all five matches in the national tournament.
Miranda Mueck and Giulia Viglietta won big at the fours, allowing just 19 points against in their two sets. Sam Simmers and Olivia Simon played to extra points in their second set after a 21-19 win, defeating their Tiger opponents 23-21 to round out the season.
The Mustangs finish the season 24-9, marking the second consecutive season that Stevenson has exceeded 20 wins and brought home the bronze from the national tournament.
