LYNCHBURG, Va. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball played their final two road matches of the regular season today at the University of Lynchburg. The Mustangs started their day with a 4-1 win over Richard Bland College before falling 3-2 to Liberty University.
Match one saw a three-set victory out of Stevenson's first flight as Taylor Jones and Nicolette Fuglestad won their first and third sets 21-19 and 15-6. At the threes, Caleigh Bernota and Sima Kahoussi took down Bland's Green and Hyndshaw in sets of 21-15 and 21-14, while Stevenson's fourth flight of Olivia Simon and Sam Simmers won a pair of 21-17 sets. Fifth flight Miranda Mueck and Makala Thompson won 21-18 before allowing just eight points against in their second set victory.
Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja fell in three sets, battling back from a 15-21 first set loss for a 21-19 win in the second. Richard Bland's Goggie and Scipione took the third set 15-10.
Against Liberty, Jones and Fuglestad game back from a three-point loss in the first set to win 21-19 and 15-13. Simon and Simmers also went three sets in their win, coming back from a first set 16-21 loss to go 21-18 and 15-6 in the second and third sets, respectively. Bernota and Kahoussi fell in three sets, winning the second 21-17.
Taylor Jones and Nicolette Fuglestad are the lone flight to go undefeated this weekend, finishing 4-0 as the top pair. Third flight Caleigh Bernota and Sima Kahoussi, fourth flight Olivia Simon and Sam Simmers, and fifth flight Makala Thompson and Miranda Mueck each finished the weekend 3-1.
The split puts the Mustangs at 18-6 on the season with four regular-season matches remaining. Stevenson hosts Erskine College, Lancaster Bible College, and the University of Lynchburg next weekend in the 2024 Stevenson Invitational. The Mustangs' matches are slated for Friday, April 5th at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. as well as Saturday, April 6th at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
