LYNCHBURG, Va. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball traveled to Lynchburg this afternoon for a doubleheader against the hosting Hornets and Liberty University. Match one against the Flames ended 3-2 in Stevenson's favor and match two was a 5-0 sweep over the Hornets.
Against Liberty, Stevenson's first flight of Taylor Jones and Nicolette Fuglestad went three sets for the win. Caleigh Bernota and Sima Kahoussi won their third flight match in two sets, as did Makala Thompson and Miranda Mueck as the fifth pairing.
Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja took their opponents to three sets as well, but ultimately fell short.Â
After a tight first match, the Mustangs came out strong against the host team.
Jones and Fuglestad went to three sets yet again, winning the first and third 21-19 and 15-11, respectively. At the twos, Clouser and Naja played their fourth, fifth, and sixth sets of the day, winning 21-15 and 15-9 with a 21-13 second-set loss.
Bernota and Kahoussi needed just two sets to clinch the third flight, allowing 14 and 18 points against. At the fours, Olivia Simon and Sam Simmers picked up a 2-0 win in sets of 21-16 and 21-19. To round out the sweep, Thompson and Mueck allowed the fewest points against, winning 21-7 and 21-12.
The victories elevate Stevenson's win streak to six and their overall record to 17-5. They face Liberty once more as well as Richard Bland College tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for their final road matches of the regular season.
