SAINT LEO, Fla. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball traveled to Saint Leo this morning for two matches against the hosting Lions and Barry University Buccaneers. After losing their first match 5-0 to a tough Lions squad, the Mustangs came back for a 4-1 victory over the Buccaneers to earn the split.
Against Saint Leo, the first flight of Taylor Jones and Nicolette Fuglestad would battle back from a 14-21 first set loss to a 21-11 win to force a third set, but ultimately loss the tie-breaker set 15-11. In the fifth flight, Olivia Simon and Sam Simmers did the same, losing the first set by just two points before bouncing back to a dominant 21-12 win in set two. Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja lost both sets by two points as the second flight. In exhibition, Makala Thompson and Scarlett Dunn forced the extra point in the second set, but fell 10-21 and 20-22.
In the dominant 4-1 win over Barry, Taylor Jones and Nicolette Fuglestad won 22-20 and 21-14 in the closest sets of the match. Third flight Caleigh Bernota and Sima Kahoussi as well as fourth flight Miranda Mueck and Giulia Viglietta also won their second set 21-14, having won their first sets 21-2 and 21-11, respectively. In the fifth flight, Sam Simmers and Olivia Simon allowed a total of three points against, going 21-3 and 21-5.
Today's matches at Saint Leo put the Mustangs at 9-4 on the season. Their next matches include a rematch against Barry and a meeting with Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida on Thursday, March 14th. Start times are slated for 1 and 3 p.m.
