MOBILE, Ala. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball faced Tusculum University and Hendrix College earlier today on day one of the Badger Beach Bash, hosted by Spring Hill College. The Mustangs would battle hard against the Pioneers, Warriors, and the weather, but ultimately fell to Tusculum 3-0 and Hendrix 3-2.
Match one against Division II Tusculum was shortened to just three complete flights due to weather, with Stevenson's first and fifth pairings unable to break their tie after two sets. Caleigh Bernota and Sima Kahoussi won their first set 21-17 while Giulia Viglietta and Miranda Mueck clawed back from a first set loss to take the second 25-23. Stevenson's third pairing of Taylor Jones and Nicolette Fuglestad tackled three sets, winning the first 23-21.
In exhibition, Makala Thompson and Scarlett Dunn played to a three-set win, taking set one 21-18 and set three 15-9 for the lone victory over the Pioneers.
All five flights played two sets each against Hendrix with Maddie Clouser/Hannah Naja and Giulia Viglietta/Miranda Mueck claiming Stevenson's victories.
Clouser and Naja took down the Warriors' Oden and Matz by scores of 21-19 and 21-16 as the second pairing. Viglietta and Mueck defeated Roy/Gripka 21-15 before closing out the match with a 24-22 second set. The Mustangs' three losses stemmed from close matches, with several sets coming down to the two-point differential.
