LAURINBURG, N.C. - Stevenson Women's Beach Volleyball opened their 2024 season at St. Andrews this morning with matches against Emmanuel College (Ga.) and Wake Technical Community College.
In the day's opening match against Emmanuel, the Mustangs' second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth flights won their respective matches. Maddie Clouser and Hannah Naja took down Emmanuel's Johns/Jackson 22-20 and 21-16 while Taylor Jones and Nicolette Fuglestad defeated their opponents 21-10 and 21-19. The fourth pairing of Olivia Simon and Sam Simmers defeated Lobendaun/Pritchard 21-17 and 21-14 and the team's final pairing of Giulia Viglietta and Miranda Mueck went 21-16 and 21-8 against Farrar/McGlamery.
Stevenson's first pairing, Caleigh Bernota and Sima Kahoussi battled to three sets, ultimately falling after scores of 21-19, 17-21, and 9-15. In exhibition, Makala Thompson and Scarlett Dunn won 21-16 and 21-4.
Match two against Wake Tech saw all six pairs earn victories in just two sets. Kahoussi and Bernota allowed just 20 total points against, finishing 21-13 and 21-7. Clouser and Naja had closer sets than the first pairing, but took care of Wake Tech's Oros/Carter in sets of 21-18 and 21-16. Jones and Fuglestad held steady as the third pairing, bringing in wins of 21-10 and 21-7 before Simon and Simmers went 21-10 and 21-. Viglietta and Mueck allowed the fewest amount of points with their 21-3 and 21-5 set wins. Thompson and Dunn posted another two set wins with final scores of 21-10 and 21-8.
The Mustangs look to double their wins record tomorrow with their final two matchups of the trip against the hosting St. Andrews Knights and familiar foe University of Lynchburg. Match one begins at 10 a.m. with the second to follow.
