OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University baseball team is set to hit the diamond for the 2024 season on the road against the Mary Baldwin University Fighting Squirrels for a tentative game beginning Wednesday, February 21 at 5 p.m.

The team this season is coached by
Matt Righter, who begins his first season with the Mustangs following six seasons as the head coach at Vassar College. Former standout outfield
Tommy Holcomb is welcomed back as a volunteer assistant coach this season. Holcomb completed his career in 2023 as a graduate student and brings knowledge to the team this season following a detailed career. Last season, Holcomb managed eight multi-RBI games, four triples, and four home runs.
Bringing in a total 37 student-athletes this season, the roster consists of 19 returners, nine newcomers, and includes nine transfers.

A LOOK BACK
In the inaugural season on their new diamond at East Campus, the team completed last season with a 21-17 overall record and went 12-11 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play, placing sixth in the final standings. The Mustangs finished with four separate four-game win streaks. The season-ending streak consisted of Gettysburg College (7-3), and a three-game series against conference opponent Eastern University (7-6, 11-2, 2-0).
SCOUTING MARY BALDWIN
Last season, the Mustangs won 24-2 against the Fighting Squirrels in eight innings. The Fighting Squirrels starts their season on Tuesday, February 20, traveling to Eastern Mennonite University for a 3 p.m. game.
Head coach Scott Hearn will begin his sixth season at the helm of the Fighting Squirrels. Adding 38 players to their roster, The Fighting Squirrels begin the new season with nine first-years, six sophomores, 10 juniors, 10 seniors, and three graduate students.
At batting Last season, returner senior outfield and infield Michael Robertson led the team with 23 total runs. Now a graduate student, Noah Kessler topped the team with 42 hits and 24 RBI. Graduate student Josh Lallo finished the season with five home runs. At pitching, Dalton Hall kept a 3.29 ERA against 13 hits and six runs.
