Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Overcoming a sluggish start, the Stevenson University women's volleyball team moved to 3-2 overall – and 2-0 at home – with a 3-1 win over Scranton on Friday night, in the first day of a two-day, four-team meet.
Set scores were 13-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-13 in favor of the Mustangs.
Stevenson – after finishing with an attack percentage of .000 in the first set (6-6-36), did a total 180 over the next three sets. The Mustangs apexed in the fourth and deciding set, hitting .429 (13-1-28).
Senior middle hitter
Darian Dildy collected 12 kills in the match, with no errors on 20 attacks (.600). Senior outside hitter
Rileigh Kimball added in 11 kills on 39 attacks with just two errors. Sophomore outside hitter
Kylie DesLauriers had eight kills in the win.
Junior setter
Makala Thompson had 22 of the Mustangs' 42 assists on the night, with sophomore setter
Samantha Simmers getting 15.
Defensively, fifth-year libero
Kayla Vaeth had 18 digs, with DesLauriers getting 13.
At the net, graduate right side Adriana Fisher had six block assists, with graduate middle hitter
Haley Hoover and Dildy each getting five block assists, as Stevenson totaled 12 on the night.
The first set was all Royals (1-3) as Scranton led by as much as 11 at 21-10 before winning the first 25-13.
In the second set, Stevenson took several leads, but Scranton led 19-16 heading into the latter part of the second stanza. A kill by Dildy got the Mustangs within one at 20-19. Following a DesLauriers kill that tied the score at 20-all, Stevenson took the lead at 21-20 on a kill by Dildy.
A service ace from Vaeth would be the deciding point at 25-23.
In the third set, Stevenson broke open a close set at 20-18 by scoring four straight points, punctuated by a block from
Giulia Viglietta that made the score 24-18. She would later have the deciding point at 25-19, on a kill. Simmers had the assist.
In the fourth and final set, Stevenson opened an 11-all tie with a 9-1 run go up 20-12 on a service ace by DesLauriers.
Stevenson will take on 22
nd-ranked Mary Washington at 10 a.m., and then DeSales at 4 p.m. on Saturday. In the second match of the night, Mary Washington defeated DeSales by a 3-0 score.
