The Stevenson University baseball team competed the series sweep of the Eagles with 11-2 and 2-0 wins. Pitcher
Seth Hartman threw a seven inning shutout in game two, giving up only two hits and recording five strikeouts.Â
Game One
The Mustangs wasted no time putting a run on the board with bases loaded as
Nick Tamberino walked, forcing
Billy McAdam home.Â
The next inning,
Jonathan Brandt singled up the middle driving in
Alex Russo. After
Amani Jones doubled, Tamberino sent a double out to center field himself to score Jones and Brandt, increasing the advantage to 4-0.
Eastern plated two runs in the third, but the Mustangs answered as
Tommy Holcomb singled to right feild sending Brandt across the plate.Â
Stevenson kept their foot on the gas, tacking on four more runs in the fifth. This included a Holcomb triple down the right field line scoring Tamberino and Jones.
Starting pitcher
Sam Downs earned his fifth victory on the 2023 season going 5.0 innings, giving up zero earned runs, and striking out six.
Matt Reich pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out two batters, to seal a 11-2 victory.Â
Game Two
After starting the game with three scoreless innings, the Mustangs found their pair of runs in the fourth. With runners on second and third,
Dylan Young laid down a bunt single that drove home Jones. The next at-bat,
Trent Smoot sent a sacrifice fly out to right center, scoring Tamberino.Â
Hartman improves his 2023 record to a perfect 3-0. The Mustangs finish the campaign with a 21-17 (13-11 MACC) record, good for sixth place in the Commonwealth.Â
