Annville, Pa. - Stevenson graduate student
Sam Downs was named the MAC-Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year as him and three other players earned all-conference honors, announced by the conference on Monday.
After starting only eight games through his first four seasons, Downs started ten his senior year and earned a 5-2 record. The graduate student lead the team tossing 51.1 innings with a league leading 2.10 ERA. He also lead the squad in strikeouts with 68, while allowing just 12 earned runs. He lead the commonwealth in ERA, opponent batting average (.202), strikeouts looking (28), hits allowed (39), and home runs allowed (1).
Amani Jones was named to the second team at shortstop. Jones led Stevenson with a .342 average at the dish and 15 doubles. Jones started all 38 contests at shortstop and was second on the team with a .480 slugging percentage. He went 2-6 with a homerun collecting four RBI's against Hood (4/4/23).
Tommy Holcomb was named to the second team in the outfield. Like Jones, he also started every game for the Mustangs, posting a .317 batting average and was perfect in the outfield with 71 putouts and no errors. He led Stevenson with four triples and four home runs. Tommy has eight multi-RBI games this season with 30 over his career.
Jonathan Brandt snagged an honorable mention in the third base position. The graduate student played 35 games for the green and white and batted a .307. Brandt racked up 39 hits, 12 doubles, and a pair of homers. He had two games hitting two doubles in against Ursinus and York.
