LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team slotted four wins in Lynchburg this weekend to notch a seven-game win streak.
Taylor Jones,
Shannon Baily,
Hannah Naja,
Maddie Clouser,
Sam Simmers and
Caleigh Bernota went undefeated on the weekend.
Against Lynchburg on Saturday, Baily and Jones notched 21-18 and 21-13 victories in the first flight. In flight #2,
Rileigh Kimball and
Miranda Mueck fell in both sets. In the third pairing, Nicolette Fuglestead and Mikala Thompson grabbed two wins, and took the first set 21-15 and the second set 21-18. Naja and Clouser swept the fourth flight, with 21-17 and 21-13 wins. Simmers and Bernota sat in the fifth flight and claimed 21-13 and 21-12 decisions. The Mustangs earned a 4-1 win over the Hornets.
The Mustangs concluded play on Saturday with a 4-1 win over Richard Bland. Baily and Jones took the win in the first flight for Stevenson. In the second pair, Kimball and Mueck fell 0-2, but Fuglestead and Thompson took the victory in the third flight. In the fourth flight, Naja and Clouser walked away with a victory as Bernota and Simmers did the same in flight #5.
Against Bryant & Stratton on Sunday, the Mustangs grabbed a 5-0 victory. Baily and Jones slotted 21-13 and 21-14 wins in the first pairing. In the second flight, Kimball and Mueck picked up two wins, 21-17 in set one and 21-18 in set two. Fuglestead and Thompson tallied a 23-21 win in set one and 21-9 win in set two. In flight #3, Naja and Clouser put up a 21-17 and 21-7 decision. Simmers and Bernota then dished out 21-14 and 21-17 wins in the fifth flight for Stevenson.
On Sunday morning, facing Richard Bland, Baily and Jones took both sets 21-14 to grab the two wins. In the second pairing, Kimball and Mueck fought to three sets to declare a 2-1 win. Fuglestead and Thompson fell in the third flight for the Mustangs. Clouser and Naja then picked up 21-15 and 21-9 wins in the fourth flight, as Simmers and Bernota won 21-8 and 21-9 in the fifth flight to slot the 4-1 victory.
The Mustangs will be in action on Friday at home in Owings Mills, as the squad faces University of Lynchburg at 11 a.m. and Berry College (Ga.) at 3 p.m.
