GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team (7-2) finished the weekend at the Gulf Shores Alabama tournament going 3-2 on the weekend. The squad notched a 3-2 win over Berry College (Ga.), 5-0 sweep over University of Mobile (Ala.), 4-1 win over Huntingdon College, and fell 2-3 to Hendrix and 1-4 to Spring Hill.
The Mustangs put up a hard-fought effort in the 3-2 win over Berry College on Friday morning. In flight #1,
Miranda Mueck and
Rileigh Kimball fell 1-2, with results of 16-21, 21-14, and 12-15. In the second pairing,
Shannon Baily and
Taylor Jones notched a 2-1 win with a close 21-19 win in set one and a 15-10 win in set three.
Makala Thompson and
Nicolette Fuglestad were slotted in flight #3 and fell 17-21 and 20-22 in two close sets. In flight #4,
Maddie Clouser and
Hannah Naja came out with a 2-0 sweep taking set one 21-15 and set two 21-11.
Caleigh Bernota and
Sam Simmers rounded out the win for the Mustangs in flight #5 with a 21-18 win and 21-15 win. In exhibition,
Sarah Straub and
Juliana Seno finished in draw with scores of 15-21, and 21-7.
Against University of Mobile (Ala.) the Mustangs took a 5-0 win on Friday afternoon. In the first flight, Mueck and Kimball fought through three sets to take the 2-1 victory with scores of 12-21, 21-14, and 15-11. Baily and Jones were slotted in flight #2 and won both sets 21-15 and 21-17. In the third pair, Thompson and Fuglestad took two close wins od 21-18 and 21-17. In flight #4, Clouser and Naja fought to three sets to take a 2-1 win. Bernota and Simmers also fought to three sets in flight #5 and took the 2-1 win. In exhibition, Straub and Seno grabbed two wins, with close 21-19 and 21-17 sets
The squad fell to Hendrix 2-3 on Saturday morning. The Mustangs fell in the first three flights but grabbed wins in the last two pairings. In flight #4 Clouser and Naja battles to three sets going 19-21, 21-19, and 15-11. Bernota and Simmers also fought to three sets in flight #5, and finished 19-21, 21-14, and 15-10. In exhibition, Straub and Seno finished with 21-18 and 21-10 wins.
In the noon match against Huntingdon, the Mustangs slotted a 4-1 win. Mueck and Kimball slotted a 2-1 win, finishing 17-21, 21-17, and 15-13 in the first pair. Following in flight #2, Baily and Jones grabbed a 21-15 and a 21-14 win. Thompson and Fuglestad notched 21-14 and 21-18 wins in the third flight for the Mustangs. In flight #4, Clouser and Naja fell in a hard-fought three set match 1-2. Bernota and Simmers rounded out the match up with another win in flight #5, finishing 21-16 and 21-14. In exhibition, Straub and Seno slotted two victories, concluding with 21-11 and 21-10 scores.
In the final contest of the tournament, the Mustangs fell 1-4 to Spring Hill College. In the match up, the lone victory for the Mustangs came in flight #2 with Baily and Jones taking a 21-16 and 21-14 win.
The Mustangs will prepare to travel down to Lake Worth, Fla. to face Palm Beach State College and Lake Sumter Community College on Sunday, Mar. 12. Match times are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
