MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team split on Friday morning in Mount Berry, dropping to Huntingdon 2-3 and shut down LaGrange 5-0.
Against Huntingdon,
Taylor Jones and
Shannon Baily fought through three sets to take the 2-1 win in the first flight. In flight #2
Miranda Mueck and
Rileigh Kimball fell in both sets. Nicolette Fuglestand and
Makala Thompson came out on top in the third pairing grabbing a 2-1 victory. In the fourth flight
Maddie Clouser and
Hannah Naja fell 2-1 with set scores of 21-18, 9-21, and 15-11.
Sam Simmers and
Caleigh Bernota were slotted in the fifth flight and fell in both sets. In exhibition,
Sarah Straub and
Abby Bruce notched a 21-15 and 21-13 victory.
In the 5-0 sweep over LaGrange, all five flights took their victories in just two sets. In flight #1, Baily and Jones won 21-17, as Mueck and Kimball followed in flight #2 took both sets 21-7. In the third flight, Fuglestad and Thompson took set one 21-7 and set two 21-14. In the fourth pairing, Naja and Clouser took the sets with scores of 21-12 and 21-11. Simmers and Bernota capped of the win with a 21-13 and 21-15 win in the fifth flight.
The Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday morning as the squad takes on East Texas Baptist at 8:15 a.m. and Berry College at 10 a.m.
