Saint Leo, FL. – The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team continues a winning streak on Saturday after slotting two wins against Florida Southern College and St. Johns River State College. This would be the first time defeating NCAA Division ll Florida Southern College, setting yet another program record.
In the first match-up of the day against Florida Southern,
Shannon Baily and
Taylor Jones showed no signs of slowing down as they took both sets, 21-14 and 21-18.
Rileigh Kimball and
Miranda Mueck ruled the court winning 21-9 in both sets. In the third flight,
Makala Thompson and
Nicolette Fuglestad fell short in their sets, losing 21-17 in set one and 23-21 in the second.
Hannah Naja and
Maddie Clouser battled it out in three sets but unfortunately couldn't finish on top in set three 15-11 in the fourth pairing. In flight #5,
Caleigh Bernota and
Sam Simmers took a huge win for the Mustangs, winning set two 21-18 and three 15-11. This would secure the win and result in a 3-2 score, making this the first time in program history that Stevenson beat Florida Southern College.
In the second match-up against St. Johns River, the Mustangs swept the court. Baily and Jones won the first set 21-7 and the third set 15-9. Mueck and Kimball battled for the first set and won 22-20 and completely dominated in the second winning 21-6 in the second pairing. In the third flight, Thompson and Fuglestad won both matches with the same score of 21-15. Flight #4 took the win with Naja and Clouser taking the sets 21-7 and 21-10. To finish the win streak off for the Mustangs, Simmers and Bernota won set two 21-14 and set three 15-9. In the exhibition,
Sarah Straub and
Juliana Seno won both sets, 22-20 and 21-19. The final score of this match-up was a solid 5-0.
The Mustangs will go against Huntingdon College and LaGrange College on Friday. The squad will take on Huntingdon College at 8:15 a.m. and LaGrange College at 10 a.m. These will be the first matches that take place in Mount Berry, Georgia.
