FORT WORTH, Fla. – The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team notched two series wins during the squad's first day of spring break play. The Mustangs grabbed a 3-2 victory over Palm Beach State College and 4-1 win over Lake Sumter on Sunday afternoon, as Kimball, Mueck, Clouser, and Naja went undefeated in the second and fourth flights.
Against Palm Beach,
Shannon Baily and
Taylor Jones battled through three sets in the first flight and fell 1-2. In flight #2,
Miranda Mueck and
Rileigh Kimball also fought to three sets and finished on top winning 2-1. In the third pairing,
Nicolette Fuglestad and
Makala Thompson fell 16-21 and 15-21.
Maddie Clouser and
Hannah Naja fought to three sets to take a 2-1 win in flight #4.
Caleigh Bernota and
Juliana Seno rounded out the flights in the fifth slot and battled to a 2-1 victory in three sets for the Mustangs to take the 2-3 win. In exhibition,
Sam Simmers and
Sarah Straub fell 0-2.
The Mustangs grabbed a 4-1 victory over Lake Sumter. In the first flight, Baily and Jones took both sets with scores of 21-9 and 21-14. In the second pairing Mueck and Kimball notched a 21-9 and 21-18 win. In flight #3, Fuglestad and Thompson dueled to three sets to walk with a 2-1 victory. Clouser and Naja then took their second three set victory of the weekend in the fourth flight. The Mustangs then fell in the fifth flight due to hot weather difficulties to lead to a forfeit. In exhibition, Seno and Straub finished 21-15, 19-21, and 10-10.
The Mustangs will continue their spring break tour on Tuesday as the team faces up against Warner University (Fla.) at 1 p.m. and Webber International University (Fla.) at 3 p.m.
