VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Stevenson (4,0) women's beach volleyball squad capped off their weekend at the Virginia Beach Tournament with two 5-0 sweeps over Richard Bland College and Wake Technical Community College on Saturday.
In flight #1 against Richard Bland,
Rileigh Kimball and
Miranda Mueck came out hot to take both sets 21-8 and 21-12.
Shannon Baily and
Taylor Jones took both matches in flight two with a close 21-19 victory and a 21-12 win. In flight #3,
Makala Thompson and
Nicolette Fuglestad fought two through tight sets and won both 21-18. In flight #4,
Hannah Naja and
Maddie Clouser finalized two wins with 21-17 and 21-19 wins.
Caleigh Bernota and
Sam Simmers battled through three sets in flight #5 as the pair grabbed the first set 21-17, dropped the second 18-21, but capped off the win in the third set, 15-11.
Against Wake Tech, Kimball and Mueck took the two-set victory in flight #1. Baily and Jones followed in flight #2 with a 21-1 win and a 21-7 win. In flight #3 Thompson and Fuglestad grabbed two 21-8 victories. Naja and Clouser capped off two wins in flight #4, finishing 21-10 and 21-5. In flight #5, Bernota and Simmers walked away with two wins, and went 21-10 and 21-11.
In exhibition,
Sarah Straub and
Juliana Seno notched the first match win 21-2 and 21-6 and the second win 21-10 and 21-15, while
Abby Bruce and
Giulia Viglietta slotted a 21-15 win.
The Mustangs will prepare to travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. For the Gulf Shores Alabama Tournament on Friday. The first match of the weekend is against University of Mobile (Ala.) and is slated for 12:30 p.m.
