OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson acrobatics & tumbling bounced into their 2023 campaign, sweeping Caldwell University with a final overall score of 186.660-113.350 in the Owings Mills gym.
 
In the compulsory event, the Mustangs started strong, posting a 5.150 in the acro discipline and went on to nab an 8.900 in the pyramid discipline. While scoring lower in the toss discipline, the Mustangs tied the Cougars in the tumbling heat, and the home hosts finished the first event on top 24.650, to the Cougars' 19.150.
 
In the acro event, the Mustangs secured a 6.050 score in the five-element heat. With higher scores in the following two heats, the Mustangs ended the acro event at 19.750 points to the Cougars' 14.250.
 
The Mustangs moved into the pyramid event with confidence, securing a 7.650 score in the first heat to the Cougars' 7.500. Continuing to build a significant lead, the Mustangs posted a 6.950 score in the second heat and went on to lead in the final heat, securing the pyramid event with a 23.900 score.
 
By a close margin, the Mustangs posted a 7.450 score in the first heat of the toss event. The Cougars scored a 6.500 in the second heat while the Mustangs notched a 7.150 score. Adding a 7.600 score in the final heat to the Cougars' 7.800 score, the Mustangs ended the toss event on top, with 22.200 points.
 
Despite having a lower score in the first two heats of the tumbling event, the Mustangs managed a 4.000 score to the Cougars' 2.250 in the third heat. The Mustangs' 8.075 score in the fourth heat was slightly lower than the Cougars' 8.250, but Stevenson regained the lead in the fifth heat, posting an 8.025 score. Close behind in the final heat, the Mustangs ended the tumbling event with 39.250 points to the Cougars' 39.800.
 
To end the day, the Mustangs participated in their first-ever team event, posting a 56.910 score and putting them in a significant lead, 186.660-113.350.
