OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Men's Beach Volleyball made history today at Mustang Beach with a pair of 5-0 wins over Erskine College and Liberty University. Their dual win total now comes to eight with an opportunity to extend their win streak next weekend.
The Mustangs started with Erskine today, coming off of a 5-0 victory against the Flying Fleet late last night.
First pair Tim Flanagan and John Ferraro dominated to a quick 2-0 win, allowing just 13 and 14 points against.
In the second flight, Aidan O'Brien and Jack Braverman took Erskine's Lowenberg and Thompson to three sets following their 24-22 victory in the first set and Erskine's tying 22-20 effort bin the second. O'Brien and Braverman wasted no time taking the match, as they only allowed Lowenberg and Thompson six points in the third set.
Third pair Anthony Pezzino and Ryan Thenell came off of an exciting three-set match last night to secure the sweep, but today's matchup went only two sets with the Mustang duo taking 21-11 and 21-19 wins.
Doug Hines and Jay Hyman also remained undefeated against Erskine, taking the Flying Fleet's fourth pair down in only two sets of 21-10 and 21-17.
The Mustangs' fifth flight of Kevin Kouchoukos and Tanner Laukhuff dominated against Matthew Richmond and Brayson Jones, giving up just 16 points total as they quickly reached their 42.
In match two against Liberty, Tim Flanagan and John Ferraro went three sets, taking two straight after falling 21-19 in the first set. Their next two sets ended 21-12 and 15-9 in their favor as they collected their fourth win together this weekend.
Aidan O'Brien and Jack Braverman battled in three sets yet again with Liberty, but reversed yesterday's result. O'Brien and Braverman won 21-14 and 17-15 to come back from a 21-17 first-set loss.
Anthony Pezzino and Ryan Thenell took care of Liberty's Milo and Kinzler in two sets, finishing with wins of 21-19 and 21-16.
After the Flames forfeited their fourth flight, JD Sarmuksnis and Tanner Laukhuff went three sets in their win. They won the first 21-16 before Liberty came back for a 21-18 win, but Sarmuksnis and Laukhuff battled all the way through to a 16-14 third-set victory.
The Mustangs finish their 2023 home campaign undefeated. They look to improve their road record next weekend, October 21st and 22nd, when they travel to Greeneville, Tennessee to take on the Tusculum University Invitational.
