OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's beach volleyball team (7-4) capped off the second day of the Stevenson Invitational with a perfect 2-0 record, earning 5-0 victories over Liberty and Wingate while celebrating its senior class.
In the match against Wingate, RC Getteau and Tanner Laukhuff opened with set wins of 21-15 and 21-19 to claim the first pair. Kevin Kouchoukos and Ryan Harrington followed with dominant 21-10, 21-10 victories in the No. 2 spot. In the third pairing, Jacob Sledz and Jackson Bones notched set wins of 21-11 and 21-14, while Charles Signa and Finnegan Keon took the fourth flight 21-12, 21-15. JD Sarmuksnis and Adam DeRubertis rounded out the sweep with scores of 21-10 and 21-17.
Against Liberty, Getteau and Laukhuff again set the tone with a straight-set victory, 21-16 and 21-17. Kouchoukos and Harrington battled through three sets to take the second pair, 19-21, 21-10, 15-8. Sledz and Bones added another win in the No. 3 pairing with scores of 21-18 and 21-11, while Signa and Keon earned a 21-15, 21-16 result in the fourth flight. Sarmuksnis and DeRubertis closed out the 5-0 team win with set scores of 21-15 and 21-19.
In exhibition play, Ben Grove and Daniel Sledz picked up a 2-0 win over Wingate (21-12, 21-11) and tied with Liberty (26-28, 21-16).
The Mustangs now turn their focus to the AVCA Men's Beach Volleyball National Tournament, set for November 7–9 in Huntsville, Ala.
