Men’s Beach Volleyball earns trimatch sweep on senior day

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Men's Beach Volleyball returned to Mustang Beach this afternoon for a trimatch with Liberty University and Erskine College. While honoring seniors John Ferraro, Justin Novoa, Aidan O'Brien, and Micah Ernest, the Mustangs would play to two victories.

The Mustangs would first face the Flames, starting with a two-set win from the pair of Justin Novoa and Kevin Kouchoukos over Liberty's Woenink and Rice (21-10, 21-18).

Anthony Pezzino and Ryan Thenell put up a pair of quick wins against John Kinzler and Andrew Milo, 21-15 and 21-13.

Tim Flanagan and John Ferraro followed with convincing 21-12 and 21-15 set wins to clinch the win for the Mustangs.

Liberty's fourth flight would forfeit.

Aidan O'Brien and Jack Braverman fell in three hard-fought sets with Mason Ellenberger and Colt Fitzgerald. After losing the first set in extra points, O'Brien and Braverman would bounce back for a 21-14 win, but ultimately fall short in the third set's 15-13 final.

The Mustangs carried the momentum from their first win over to their contest with Erskine, sweeping the Flying Fleet.

Justin Novoa and Kevin Kouchoukos took the first win of the match yet again, taking the first set 21-16 followed by a 21-11 win.

Doug Hines and Jay Hyman followed, also winning their first set 21-16 before ending their day with a 21-12 victory.

Aidan O'Brien and Jack Braverman went to three sets against Erskine as well, but brought home the win with a first set win of 21-16 and a third set triumph of 16-14.

First pair Tim Flanagan and John Ferraro wasted no time in the final round of the day, defeating their opponents 21-9 and 21-17.

With the sweep on the line, Anthony Pezzino and Ryan Thenell battled in three close sets, coming from behind to win 22-20 and 16-14 in the second and third sets, respectively.

With the wins, the Mustangs improve to 6-2 in dual play. They have a chance to set a new single-season program record for wins tomorrow with matches against Erskine at 9 a.m. and Liberty at 1 p.m.
