Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University field hockey notched another victory on a cool cloudy Wednesday evening, knocking off McDaniel by a 2-1 count in overtime.
Stevenson improved to 3-1, while McDaniel falls to 2-1 on the season. Meghan Huey and Macy Kosanovich found the cage for the Mustangs in the home triumph.
A highly defensive battle in the first quarter, Logan Beaty had the first attempt for the Mustangs following a penalty corner. The Green Terror posted two attempts in the 10th minute, but sent both wide of Stevenson goalkeeper Jamie Fritz.
In the second quarter, Fritz made a strong save to preserve the scoreless affair. The third quarter opened with high defensive stakes. Veronica Maring had a chance blocked in the 31st minute following a Green Terror penalty corner.
The Mustangs eventually broke through with the game's opening tally, coming courtesy of Huey the 38th minute, her first of the season.
Stevenson made two shots on goal before resulting in the first goal of the night scored by #11 Meghan Huey in the 38th minute. Huey's goal put Stevenson on the board for the evening and was the first goal of the season for the midfielder.
Following a penalty corner from Stevenson three minutes in, the fourth quarter saw an offensive push from the Green Terror. Dillan Williams finished off a pass Tenley Pelot to knot the score at one in the fourth.
Determined to walk away with the victory in overtime, Kosanovich finished off a mad scramble in front four minutes in the extra session.
NUMBERS AND NOTES
- Both green cards were issued in the third quarter, one on Stevenson's Abbygail Hurst and the other on The Green Terror's Dillan Williams.
- Goalkeeper Jamie Fritz made her 10th save of the season, making her overall total for this year 11.
- Both teams tied for shots with eight on the evening.
