Shenandoah opened the game with three early shots. After trading possession, the Hornets' shot bounced off SU junior forward
Mackenzie Grove into the back of the net at 24:34. Shortly after that at 29:04, a Stevenson corner kick led to a pair of shots and a goal from Johnson, her first of the season, to tie the game. The Mustangs took advantage of their momentum and scored again. This time a nice pass from first-year forward
Kamille Purcell sent Butler in all alone for her first goal of her senior year at 33:03.
The second half begun with another own goal scare for the Mustangs, while the home team was hemmed in their own zone for the majority of the second half. At 62:12 the Mustangs committed a handball foul that led to a Shenandoah penalty kick and goal for the Hornets' Elizabeth McGee. The visitors didn't let up, and after a flurry of shots, Shenandoah struck again with a goal from Sarah Crusse at 12:26. Shenandoah then cashed in for an insurance marker off a rebound scored by the Hornets' Peyton Starks, assisted by Roxana Nielson giving them a two-goal lead with 1:27 remaining.
The Mustangs are next in action when they travel to FDU-Florham Saturday, Sept. 24, The start is scheduled for 3 p.m. Shenandoah returns home to face Washington & Lee on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.
