OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's beach volleyball team made history today becoming the first NCAA varsity men's beach volleyball program to compete. The program hosted a tri-match with the University of Delaware and Towson, downing the Blue Hens 4-1 and sweeping the Tigers 5-0.
Match 1 vs University of Delaware
The No. 1 pair of
Tim Flanagan and
Ryan Thenell swept the Blue Hen pairs by set scores of 21-14 and 21-15.
At No. 2,
Jack Braverman and
Aidan O'Brien fell by set scores of 21-17 and 21-13. At No. 3,
Justin Novoa and
Jay Hyman took the match at 2-0 with set scores of 21-13 and 21-12.
At No. 4
Kevin Kouchoukos and
Minh Christensen took set one 21-16 before dropping the second set 17-21. The duo took the third and deciding set handedly with a score of 15-9 for the 2-1 vitory.
At No. 5,
Micah Ernest and
JD Sarmuksnis took the match with set scores of 21-16 and 21-19. In the exhibition match,
Brian Farrell and Doug dropped the first frame 18-21 before taking the second set 21-11 to force a third frame. The duo won the final stanza 15-7.
Match 2 vs Towson
The Mustang pairs swept all five matches 2-0 against the Tigers in the final matchup of the day. At No. 1,
Tim Flanagan and
Ryan Thenell took the match with set scores of 21-8 and 21-8.
At No. 2,
Jack Braverman and
Aidan O'Brien won with set scores of 21-10 and 21-8.
At No. 3.
Justin Novoa and
Jay Hyman won with set scores of 21-9 and 21-5.
At No. 4, Kevin Koushoukos and
Minh Christensen won with set scores of 21-12 and 21-8.
At No. 5,
Micah Ernest and
JD Sarmuksnis won with set scores of 21-12 and 21-10.
In the exhibition match,
Brian Farrell and
Doug Hines won with set scores of 21-6 and 21-7.
