OWINGS MILLS, Md.- The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team picked up two wins in its own Stevenson Invitational on Saturday. The Mustangs defeated Loyola (Md.), 4-1 and then Liberty, 4-1.
Against Loyola (Md.), who are not a varsity team, Emily Pellini and Shannon Baily took set one 21-19 before dropping set two to force a third set. The pair picked up a 15-13 win. At No. 2 Piper Connors and Taylor Jones won, 21-15, 21-18. Abby Bruce and Olivia Simon dropped the first set 21-19 before taking the final two sets, 21-18, 15-9. At No. 4, Rileigh Kimball and Maddie Clouser fell, 19-21, 24-22, 15-10 and at No. 5, Kayla Vaeth and Hannah Naja registered a 21-12, 21-8 win. In exhibition, Juliana Seno and Sarah Straub won, 21-13, 21-8.
Against Liberty, who are not a varsity team, Pellini and Bailiy picked up a 21-18, 21-19 win at No. 1. At No. 2, Connors and Jones fell in set one, 14-21 but took the final two sets, 21-19, 15-13. Bruce and Simon fell, 19-21, 21-23 in close sets. At No. 4, Kimball and Clouser won their match, 21-17, 21-16 and Vaeth and Naja won, 22-20, 15-21, 15-10. In exhibition, Seno and Staub split 21-17, 20-22.
The Stevenson Invitational continues tomorrow as the Mustangs start at 11 am against Liberty.
