Carricato Tallies 3 RBIs as Mustangs Take Key Game at Messiah

Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Stevenson junior Kevin Carricato tallied three RBIs in a 3-3 effort as the Stevenson baseball team (14-22-1, 9-4 MACC) improved their standing in the MAC Commonwealth with a 5-1 victory over Messiah (18-18, 7-6 MACC) Wednesday afternoon at Starry Baseball Field. With a tight race at the top of the MAC Commonwealth standings, the victory can prove to be a deciding factor for championship seedings.

Malcolm Edelin pitched 4.2 innings in relief with 2 hits and four strikeouts on his way to picking up his first win of the season. Tommy Holcomb and Billy McAdam added RBIs to add to Carricato's tally for the Mustangs.

Stevenson jumped on the board in its first trip to the plate. Jonathan Brandt led the game off with a single to right field. Billy McAdam moved Brandt to second on a groundball to second before Tommy Holcomb singled to left to score Brandt from second.

The Mustangs added two more runs in the second on a two RBI double from Kevin Carricato to plate Will Mesa and Dylan Scott, giving Stevenson a 3-0 lead in the early innings.

Carricato notched his third RBI of the afternoon in the top of the fourth with a single to center to score Dylan Scott from second to give the Mustangs a 5-0 lead.

Messiah threatened to add their first tally in the bottom of the fourth with runners on first and second. The Falcons put in action a double steal, but Mesa threw out the lead runner at third for the second out. Malcolm Edelin forced a lineout to end the inning.

Edelin continued a strong performance on the mound over the next three innings, including a one-two-three seventh inning. A leadoff walk to start the bottom of the eighth from Dustin Isanogle eventually lead to the first Messiah run when Sam Zercher reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Isanogle to cross the plate.
