Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Stevenson baseball team (8-21-1, 3-3 MAC) dropped its second straight matchup, falling to 10th ranked and defending National Champions Salisbury (22-7, 2-0 C2C) 0-17 Tuesday afternoon at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.
Salisbury jumped on the board in the first, scoring the game's first run in the bottom of the first with a single through the middle of the infield from Kavi Caster. Errors would allow Kaster to round the bases and give the Seagulls a 2-0 lead.
Mustang starter Cameron Nebel hit a rhythm in the next two innings, retiring the next six Sea Gulls in order. However, Salisbury posted six runs in the fourth to muster an 8-0 lead. With bases loaded a groundball to third basemen Jonathan Brandt turned into an inning ending double play, stalling the Salisbury momentum.
The Sea Gulls added to their lead with two runs in the fifth, each crossing the plate on balks. The Mustangs recorded another double play on a liner to right, with Tommy Holcomb gunning down the non-tagging Sea Gull at second base for the inning's first two outs.
One inning later, Holcomb picked up his second outfield assist pulling in a fly ball in right and hurling the ball to second base to retire the tagging runner from first.
A five-run seventh inning moved the Salisbury advantage to 15-0.
The best Stevenson opportunity arrived in the seventh when Schilpp smacked a double down the left field line with only one out in the inning. The Sea Gulls preserved the shutout, striking out the next two hitters.
Salisbury posted their final tallies with a two-run homer in the eight from pinch-hitting Zach Adams.
