Box Score YORK, Pa. – The Stevenson baseball team (8-20-1, 3-3 MAC) outhit its opponent for the third straight game but ultimately dropped the MAC Commonwealth matchup 8-10 to York College (Pa.) (14-12, 5-3 MAC) Monday evening at Jaquet Field.
Amani Jones went 3-5 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs while Jonathan Brandt tallied three RBIs for the Mustangs. Tommy Holcomb, Billy McAdam and Trevor Smoot all added RBIs in the nine-inning affair.
Each of the first three Stevenson hitters reached on singles with Dylan Scott crossing the plate for the game's first run on Billy McAdam's single up the middle. Brandt would reach base on a fielder's choice which allowed Trevor Smoot to score from third. Later in the inning, Amani Jones belted a triple to the right center gap to score Tommy Holcomb from first to take a 3-0 lead.
York would respond in the second with a three-run inning of their own to knot the game at 3 a-piece. In the bottom of the third, York took a 3-6 advantage on a bases clearing double from Chris Betler. A two-run Spartan homer in the fourth from Jack Barry would mark the third consecutive inning the home team posted runs, taking a 3-8 lead.
Stevenson chipped away at the York lead, posting two runs in the fifth. Jonathan Brandt was hit by a pitch with the bases full, picking up his second RBI of the afternoon when Dylan Scott crossed the plate. Tommy Holcomb followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Trevor Smoot from third to cut into the Spartan lead at 5-8.
The Mustangs added a run on in the eight on Trent Smoot's double down the left field line to score Brandon Perillo from second, cutting the York lead to 6-8. York responded quickly in the bottom half of the frame with a double to right center, scoring the runner from third. The Spartans notched their final tally on a wild pitch, taking a 6-10 lead into the final inning.
Stevenson did not go quietly, however. With bases full in the top of the ninth, Brandt took another hit by pitch, scoring Dylan Scott from third for his third RBI. Amani Jones notched his second RBI of the ball game with a single to right, scoring the pinch running Cooper Sancomb from third. Stevenson continued to threaten to tie the ball game but an inning ending double play gave York the 8-10 victory.
