OWINGS MILLS, Md.- The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team fell short against Liberty in their first match of the day. Liberty club edged the Mustangs 3-2 with four of the five pairs going to three sets. The Mustangs then swept, Loyola (Md.) club, 5-0.
At No. 1, Emily Pellini and Shannon Baily dropped their match, 21-15, 17-21, 13-15. Piper Connors and Taylor Jones got away with a 21-17, 21-13 win at No. 2. Abby Bruce and Olivia Simon won set one, 21-17 but dropped the final sets, 12-21, 11-15. Rileigh Kimball and Maddie Clouser rallied at No. 4 with a 17-21, 21-17, 15-13 win. At No. 5, Hannah Naja and Kayla Vaeth fell, 22-20, 12-21, 13-15. In exhibition, Sarah Straub and Juliana Seno won set two, 21-9.
In the Mustangs final match of the weekend, Stevenson defeated Loyola (Md.) club, 5-0. Pellini and Baily took No. 1, 21-10, 21-17, Connors and Jones won at No. 2, 21-19, 21-13 and Bruce and Simon registered a 21-19, 21-13 win at No. 3. Kimball and Clouser cruised to a 21-13, 21-15 win and Naja and Vaeth picked up a 21-18, 21-14 win at No. 5.
Stevenson is back in action for their final weekend, April 15-16 in Tavares, Fla. To compete in the Division III AVCA Small College National Championship.
