TEVENSON, Md. – The Stevenson baseball team (3-9-1) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Ursinus, falling 7-0 in the first game and 9-4 in the second game Saturday afternoon at Sugar Field.

Game 1 

Only two Mustangs mustered hits in game one as Ursinus starter Casey Murphy threw a complete-game shut out for his first victory of the season. The Bears struck first, plating two runs in the first frame with a double from designated hitter Tom Snipes. 

Stevenson threatened to respond in the bottom half of the second when Kevin Carricato reached on a walk and promptly stole second. Trevor Smoot joined him on the bases, also drawing a walk before Carricato stole third. Both runners were stranded on the base paths, however, following a strikeout and groundout.  

Connor Fox replaced starter Matt Kossey on the mound in the fourth. Ursinus would add two runs in the frame before Fox settled in over the next two innings, striking out four along the way.  

Stevenson threatened to narrow the Ursinus lead in the sixth when Jonathan Brandt earned a walk and Carricato was hit by a pitch. Brandt moved to third on a wild pitch before Carricato stole second for his third stolen base of the game. 

Logan Gersbeck replaced Fox on the mount in the seventh. The Bears would add their final three tallies of the game during the inning, striding their lead to 7-0.   

Game 2 

Ursinus again struck first, scoring a run in the first inning on an RBI single from Tom Snipes. The Mustangs responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame.  Brandon Perillo and Jonathan Brandt each reached base on a single through the left side of the infield. Perillo crossed home on an RBI double from Tommy Holcomb before Brandt added a run on a wild pitch to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead. 

Jake Boden relieved starter Matt Reich in the second, but four runs for the Bears on three hits would summon Malcolm Edelin from the bullpen to finish the inning.  Edelin would throw the next two innings, not relinquishing a hit and striking out two. 

Perillo hit a lead-off double to the right-center gap in the bottom of the third, followed by a Brandt single through the right side of the infield. Tommy Holcomb grounded into a fielder's choice, sending Perillo home for Holcomb's second RBI of the ball game.   

Ursinus added four runs in the top of the fifth to crack open a 9-3 lead. Stevenson threatened to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth but a double-play to the steam out of the attempt.  Stevenson added one more run in the seventh when Brandt doubled to left center, scoring pinch-hitter Dylan Brid from first base. 

Number and Notes 

• Malcolm Edelin picked up two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work and did not give up a hit. 
• Jonathan Brandt went 4-6 on the day with a double, one RBI and adding a walk. 
• Kevin Carricato added three stolen bases in the first game, bring his team-leading total to seven.

• The Mustangs finish their five-game homestand on Tuesday, March 8 when they host McDaniel at 2:30pm.
