BABSON PARK, Fla.- The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team picked up two big wins today on their spring break trip. The Mustangs defeated Webber International, 3-2 and Warner, 4-1. Webber is ranked third in NAIA DII.
Against Webber, Shannon Baily and Emily Pellini dropped their sets, 21-16, 21-19 at No. 1. Piper Connors and Taylor Jones clinched an important, 21-14, 22-20 sets win at No. 2. Abby Bruce and Olivia Simon won, 21-17, 21-18 at No. 3. Hannah Naja and Kayla Vaeth fell, 21-16, and in a close set two, 22-20. At No. 5, Ellie Cast and Makala Thompson dropped set one, 19-21 before taking the next two sets, 21-10, 15.
At No. 2, Connors and Jones were the final pair to finish with the score tied, 2-2.
Against Warner, Baily and Pellini dropped set one, 16-21 before taking the final two sets, 21-14, 15-11. Connors and Jones fell, 21-16, 21-12 at No. 2. Bruce and Simon won 19-21, 21-17, 15-7 at No. 3. At No. 4 Naja and Vaeth won handily, 21-11, 21-10, and No. 5 pair, Cast and Thompson also cruised to a 21-14, 21-10 win.
Pairs one through three all dropped their first set before winning the final two sets. Pairs four and five cruised to wins.
The Mustangs are back in the sand this Thursday, March 14 at 12 PM and 2 PM when they face Saint Leo and Truett McConnell.
