WILMINGTON, N.C.- The Stevenson women's beach volleyball team opened its 2022 season Saturday as they faced Catawba and host UNCW. The Mustangs won, 4-1 against Catawba before falling, 5-0 to UNCW.
Against Catawba, at No. 1 Emily Pellini and Shannon Baily forced the third set as they took set one, 21-13 before falling, 22-20, 15-10 in the final sets. At No. 2, Piper Connors and Taylor Jones dropped the first set 21-19 before taking sets two and three, 21-17, 15-8.
At No. 3, Abby Bruce and Olivia Simon won both sets, 21-16, 22-20. At No. 4, Makala Thompson and Ellie Cast also won both sets 21-8, 21-13.
Against the division I UNCW, Pellini and Baily fell at No. 1, 21-15, 21-11. Jones and Connors took set one at No. 2 before falling, 21-13, 15-10. Simon and Bruce fell, 21-11, 21-9 at No. 3.
At No. 4, Cast and Thompson fell, 21-6, 21-15 and at No. 5 Kayla Vaeth and Hannah Naja fell, 21-15, 21-15.
The Mustangs are back at it with Catawba and UNCW, Sunday, February 27th.
