FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Stevenson baseball could not solve an efficient Washington (Md.) pitching staff, falling 5-0 in nonconference action at V. Earl Dickinson Stadium. 

Stevenson (1-6-1) dropped its third-consecutive game this week, unable to muster much offense with five hits on the day. Washington (2-3) received a gem from starting pitcher Joe Morrisey, who went seven strong innings on the mound with no runs and five strikeouts, surrendering just three hits.

Trevor Smoot went 2-for-3 at the dish, collecting his fourth multi-hit effort of the young season. Amani Jones, Jake Cunkle and Eric Mondragon also added knocks for the Mustangs. On the mound, Kyle Pellegrino made the start and tossed 4.2 innings. Jackson Mayo closed out the final two innings with a scoreless no-hit effort. 

The Shoremen took advantage of four Stevenson errors to build their lead. Washington plated three runs in the bottom half of the third, coming off a fielder's choice and a pair of sacrifice flies. The Shoremen later added single runs in the fifth and sixth, with the final run of the day coming off a Mustang error. 

After a Trevor Smoot single in the first inning, Morrisey sent down the next 17 Mustang batters. Smoot was again able to punch a single to center with one away in the seventh, ending a long stretch of retired batters for Morrisey. 

Cunkle singled in the seventh before Kevin Carricato drew a walk to load the bases, one of the best run-producing chances of the day for the Mustangs.
