STEVENSON, Md. -- Stevenson acrobatics & tumbling made history as the 28th varsity sport at Stevenson, opening its inaugural season hosting No. 15 Frostburg State, falling by a final total of 258.340-118.175.
Continuing to build on the basics, Stevenson (0-1) showed great promise in its first competition under the guidance of head coach Emily Hosler. In many instances, the Mustangs got stronger as the meet went on against Frostburg State (1-1).
The Mustangs posted a 7.9 in their final event of the day, the open pass. Allison Trinks impressed in the aerial pass for the Mustangs with an 8.475 out of 8.75 start value, one of three events that Stevenson scored a 7.4 or better in the tumbling heat.
Hosler and Frostburg State head coach Katie Nunley were teammates at Alderson Broaddus and the second-year Bobcat program posted some impressive scores on the day. Meanwhile, the Mustangs fell just short of the established Bobcats in the pyramid heat.
Chrissy Carpenter, Brooke Cameron. Makenzie Estes, Megan Despres, Trinks, Paige Leszcynski and Stephanie Dixon got things started with a 7.35 out of 8.6 in the inversion pyramid. From there, Stevenson notched respectable scores of 7.55 in the synchronized pyramid and 7.90 in the open pyramid.
Stevenson returns to the mat on Friday, March 4, hitting the road for its first tri-meet against another set of first-year programs in East Stroudsburg and Kutztown.
