No. 1 Johns Hopkins Soars Past Mustangs

BALTIMORE, Md.- Stevenson and No. 1 Johns Hopkins resumed play this evening, after the match on September 1st was suspended due to a power outage in the Hopkins' Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Mustangs fell, 25-18, 25-17, 25-18.

 

  • The teams traded points at the beginning of the set until the Blue Jays began to take over control. 
  • The Mustangs recorded two points in a row following, a kill by Sophia Eckerd and a Hopkins' attack error, to take the lead, 9-8. 
  • Following a Hopkins' service error, the Blue Jays added four points to extend their lead, 14-10. 
  • Stevenson cut the Blue Jays lead, 13-16 after a kill by Piper Connors. After Connor's kill, JHU put up three more points in a row. 
  • Stevenson tried to get in reach of Hopkins' as they put up three points in a row to make the score, 21-18 but they couldn't get close enough as JHU took the final four points to make it, 18-25. 

  • Johns Hopkins hit the ground running in set two as they took a 7-3 lead. 
  • Stevenson picked up a few more points, as Hopkins' continued to lead, 10-8 after a Darian Dildy kill and a Blue Jays attack error. 
  • Hopkins' added ten of the next 15 points to lead, 20-13. 
  • The Mustangs tallied four more points which included two Hopkins' service errors, a Mustangs service ace, and a kill by Sarah Straub
  • Stevenson dropped set two, 25-17. 

  • The Mustangs and the Blue Jays started the set by trading points back and forth before Hopkins' took charge and tallied six points in a row to lead, 14-6. 
  • Stevenson took the next five of six points with a JHU attack error, two kills by Shannon Baily, a kill by Connors, and a service ace by Makala Thompson
  • The Mustangs kept fighting but it wasn't enough as the Blue Jays took the final set, 25-18. 

  • The Mustangs had a season-low 28 kills (.087) while Johns Hopkins tallied 43 kills (.312). 
  • Piper Connors totaled seven kills, a service ace, and seven digs while Eckerd tallied six kills (.250) and four block assists. 
  • Mackenzie Blevins registered 13 assists and four digs. 

  • Stevenson hosts Marymount (Va.) and Lynchburg this Saturday, October 2nd for a tri-match. The Mustangs face Marymount (Va.) at 11 am and will face Lynchburg at 3 pm.
