FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Stevenson men's soccer could not overcome a late flurry, which saw Mary Washington notch both the tying and go-ahead goal, during a tough 2-1 road loss on Wednesday afternoon.

Stevenson (4-5-1) opened the scoring in the 17th minute, holding the lead for much of the day. Mary Washington (5-2-1) found the back of the net in the 81st and 84th minutes to escape with the win.

  • Mary Washington opened the game with a bevy of corner kick chances, spanning the initial four minutes of the contest.

  • Sean McDonald dribbled in and pushed a shot high in the opening moments of the second half.
  • Berg countered with another chance for the Eagles, but once again Slaby was there to close the gap and make the save.
  • Smith looked for his second gola of the afternoon, but had his header chance denied by UMW keeper Ken Kurtz in the 57th minute.
  • Stevenson blocked two shots defensively in short order in the 66th minute.
  • The Eagles continued to mount pressure and chances, eventually knotting the game at one on a Gabe Francesconi marker in the 81st minute.
  • Minutes later, Abel Lewis netted the game-winner, rifling home a pass from Julian Schmugge in the 84th minute.

  • UMW held a 10-2 edge in second half shots at Stevenson attempted to hold off the charging hosts.
  • Slaby made three saves in each half for the Mustangs.
  • Smith notched the 19th goal of his career at Stevenson, moving into sole possession of ninth on the all-time goals list in program history.
