Mustangs Pick Up Draw With Talented Johns Hopkins Side on Wednesday

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson and Johns Hopkins traded blows on the way to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium. 

Sean McDonald continued his torrid offensive production for Stevenson (3-2-1) with a penalty kick goal in the second half. Johns Hopkins (2-0-2) responded back with an equalizing tally in the 63rd minute to force the game into overtime. 

  • Stevenson took the early 1-0 advantage after a steal for Edson DeMata, who dribbled forward and cracked the ball into the empty cage in the seventh minute. 
  • JHU picked up its pace of play before responding in the 32nd minute with a goal from Aidan Dunphy, who raced to bury a long pass from Tyler White. 

  • A handball in the box led to a penalty kick for Stevenson. McDonald approached the ball and riffled it to the top right portion of the goal, lifting Stevenson ahead 2-1 in the 52nd minute. 
  • Iliass Zouita ripped an attempt wide just moments later. 
  • White converted on the game-tying marker for JHU in the 67th minute, notching his first goal of the season. 
  • The Blue Jays continued to pepper shots at Stevenson as regulation ticked away. 
  • A red card on Lech Dunser put Stevenson up one player heading into overtime. 

  • After a relatively uneventful first overtime session, Kristian Slaby made a pair of stops in the early portions of the second overtime period for Stevenson. 
  • Liam Creedon sent one final attempt wide before time ticked away in the draw. 

  • JHU hit several posts early as it looked to get on the board in the first half. 
  • Stevenson converted on its third penalty kick chance of the season as McDonald netted a goal for the third consecutive game. 
  • While not extending its win streak, Stevenson has now registered at least one point in the last four outings. 
  • Despite the close proximity between the two schools, Stevenson and Johns Hopkins were playing for just the fifth time on Wednesday. 
  • Johns Hopkins head coach Craig Appleby will need to wait at least one more game for a coaching milestone. The longtime Blue Jays head coach entered with 149 career victories at Hopkins. 
  • Stevenson was outshot by a 22-7 margin.
